The pain and gain of DC-based diffuse optical tomography reconstruction---New insights into an old-like problem

چکیده
For diffuse optical tomography reconstruction, DC-based method outperforms frequency-domain method in background artifacts, at the known cost of increased coupling between absorption and scattering. The differences of these methods diminish when spatial priors are available. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.3880) Medical and biological imaging; (170.3010) Image reconstruction techniques; (170.6960) Tomography; (170.5270) Photon density waves

An Efficient Method for Model Reduction in Diffuse Optical Tomography
We present an efficient method for the reduction of model equations in the linearized diffuse optical tomography (DOT) problem. We first implement the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimator and Tikhonov regularization, which are based on applying preconditioners to linear perturbation equations. For model reduction, the precondition is split into two parts: the principal components are consid...
متن کاملThe Study of Variation of Photon Intensity Inside Biological Phantom by Green Theorem
The Image reconstruction is an important problem in optical tomography. The process of the image processing requires the study of photon migration in biological tissue. There are several approaches to study and simulate propagation of photons in biological tissues. These approaches are categorized into stochastic and analytical groups. The Monte Carlo method as a stochastic method is widely use...
متن کاملDirect-current-based image reconstruction versus direct-current included or excluded frequency-domain reconstruction in diffuse optical tomography.
We study the level of image artifacts in optical tomography associated with measurement uncertainty under three reconstruction configurations, namely, by using only direct-current (DC), DC-excluded frequency-domain, and DC-included frequency-domain data. Analytic and synthetic studies demonstrate that, at the same level of measurement uncertainty typical to optical tomography, the ratio of the ...
متن کاملThe utility of direct-current as compared to frequency domain measurements in spectrally-constrained diffuse optical tomography toward cancer imaging.
This work investigates, by means of analytical and simulation studies, the performance of spectrally-constrained image reconstruction in Continuous-Wave or Direct-Current (DC) and Frequency Domain (FD) near-infrared optical tomography. A recent analytic approach for estimating the accuracy of target recovery and the level of background artifact for optical tomography at single wavelength, based...
متن کاملModeling and reconstruction of diffuse optical tomography using adjoint method
A new finite-element algorithm based on adjoint method is developed to solve the inverse problem of frequent-domain diffusion equation for soft tissues. With the analytical form of gradients, the adjoint method is expanded to complex domains for the reconstruction of optical parameters in diffuse optical tomography accurately and efficiently. Specific numerical simulations are carried out and c...
